Jessica EDOSOMWAN is currently wanted for prosecution by the french judicial authorities in an international case of human trafficking and smuggling network. She is a member of a criminal network from Nigeria, operating in all the french major cities.
This organisation recruited young girls in small towns of Nigeria by promising the to fund their journey to western Europe. Once they contracted this debt, young nigerian were subjected to a religious rite, the "juju", which provided to the criminal network leader, often a religious, a strong psychological hold and a means of pressure on their families stayed in the country.When they arrived in France, young nigerian girls have to refund their debt. They were then entrusted to an older woman called "la mama" who was in charge of supervising them and collecting the money. They were housed and fed in bad conditions at exorbitant prices. The victims were then prostituted in streets or trucks. The money was recovered and sent back to Nigeria through a traditional informal payment system called "hawala".
The investigations, conducted by the French judicial police, involved more than 20 people in this criminal network. Jessica EDOSOMWAN is on the run since 2017 and could hide in FRANCE, GERMANY or BELGIUM. A European arrest warrant was issued in november 2017 against Jessica EDOSOMWAN. Her trial is scheduled for October 2019.
